Forever Charmed The Halloween LaVeau Series Book 1 (Audible Audio Edition) Rose Pressey Saskia Maarleveld Books

From bestselling author, Rose Pressey, comes Forever Charmed, the first book in an all new series!
Halloween LaVeau is descended from a long line of witches. Yes, her name is Halloween. The cosmic universe is definitely playing some kind of sick joke on her. She's the ultimate witch cliche, complete with a black cat and spooky house. Thank heavens she's missing the warts and flying broom.
When Halloween inherits her great aunt's manor, she decides to put the house to good use as a bed and breakfast. Her first guest is the sinfully good-looking Nicolas Marcos, but he's not here for the continental breakfast. Halloween discovers a ratty old book in the attic. It's written in an unfamiliar language.
Halloween soon learns this is not an ordinary spellbook. The tome brings her a new talent, but her new skills come with a catch. When a rival witch comes after the book, Halloween doesn't know who to trust - the sexy vampire who says he wants to save the day, or the warlock who says he can destroy the book once and for all.

I found it to be disappointing from beginning to end. The plot was all over the place as we're the Characters. The characters were just running round each otherin circles with no real perpose or direction. Every time Hallie asks a question they have a phone call or an appoinment. I mean come on if guests were caught going into non guest areas in the middle of the night and giving you no reason why they were there. You would dam well make sure they explained themselves. Or ask them to leave. If behavour continued. The story went no were really, a mystery is meant to have plently of leads some dead ends that keep you turned around and guessing as you look for supil clues right to end. I found no mystery or heart stopping moments.
Sorry for no positives but just am unable to find any. By all means read and make up your own mind, for me I won't be continuing the series.

Forever Charmed The Halloween LaVeau Series Book 1 (Audible Audio Edition) Rose Pressey Saskia Maarleveld Books Reviews
I gave this 2 stars because the writing is good, the plot is fun, and it could have been a very charming story. EXCEPT for the main character Halloween aka Hallie. Who suffers from TSTL syndrome. That would be Too Stupid To Live. She hasn't got the sense God gave a goose, and while she may have a brain cell or two, she rarely puts herself to the bother of using the little she was given. She bumbles along from one situation to another. Every decision she makes... when she actually does bother to make one... is the wrong one. Every. Single. Time. She's supposed to be running a B&B but doesn't bother to get credit card information from EITHER man... not even a mention of cost. When she does bring up payment to Nicholas, he just shoves a wad of cash at her. Then she has 2 men arriving within hours of each other, looking very similar, hating each others guts but claiming not to know each other, and each flinging accusations at the other. And she just bumbles along. When she finally tries to confront one or the other about the situation, the conversation gets conveniently interrupted. In fact, EVERY meaningful conversation that might lead to a positive end, is conveniently interrupted. That's some sooo friggin' cliche. And then there's the Book. Oh. My. Effing God. A book in another, incomprehensible language, the wind blows its pages open and Lo! There is a spell in English. With no indication of what it is for or what it does. And so what does she do? She casts the spell of course!!! GAAAHH <insert headbang> This woman is supposed to have grown up with and learned witchcraft, and she just casually gathers supplies and does a completely unknown spell from a book that she freely admits gives her the creeps? and not once, oh no. She does this TWICE. Too Friggin Stupid to Live. And then............... she hears something in the attic. So she goes up, in the dark of night, to investigate, without a flashlight. REALLLY SERIOUSLY ARE YOU KIDDING ME? At that point I was hoping a vampire would jump out and eat her and end this stupid woman, because she would totally have deserved it. If I'd been holding a real book instead of a , I'd have flung the thing at the wall across the room. Then the Coven... who has shunned and mocked her all her life... shows up all sucking up because she's finally got powers, and she's all misty-eyed and falling all over them, and feeling pleased with herself because she's finally coming into her own... although of course it's not her own powers she has she only got the powers because she found the book. This of course is right before the demon sucks all her powers away. And of course when she finds the book and has these powers and the 2 men squabbling over the book and both of them giving her conflicting information, does she go to her mother, an experienced and capable witch, and TELL her about all this and enlist her as an ally and source of sage advice? Well, of course not, because that would require her being actually intelligent. and the Big Battle with Mara & Co is over without even showing their defeat; in fact, I dind't even know the battle was over until it was suddenly announced that she'd defeated them and they were gone. huh? And the issue of the ghosts was never either addressed definitively nor resolved. And at the very end, the completely unsatisfying explanation of why Nicholas and Liam were at each other's throats, which was TOTALLY not a reasonable explanation for their behavior all through the book, but suddenly we have this purging of their history and then it's over and they're best buds. OH and did I mention that Hallie, the B&B owner, sneaks into her guests' rooms to snoop in their stuff? Like. Wow. Anybody else see anything wrong with this? And on top of ALL the above... she's supposed to be the leader of the entire Underworld? Oh puhleease. She can't even lead herself, and demonstrably can't even run a B&B.
It's too bad because this book had a LOT of potential, but the lack of characterization work and the main character's complete lack of brains, common sense, goal and motivation, make this both trite and seriously annoying.
Our Heroine is a young witch who seems to be not very good at magic. After inheriting an old mansion, she realizes that it will be far too expensive to maintain, and decides to make it into a Bed and Breakfast. Upon exploring the attic, she finds a very old book of spells; at least it seems to be. It's written in a language she can't understand.
The first two guests, arriving separately, are gorgeous men who seem to know and dislike each other. The third is - well, I won't give it away.
Are they all trying to steal the book from her? Why is she suddenly better at magic?
... And why does she have to be the kind of female character who is unable to think logically before she jumps into action? I thought that went out with bell-bottoms! There are also numerous typos and/or grammatical errors, and a few glaring continuity problems; she needs a much better proofreader and copy editor. I took a star away for that editing problem.
Having said that, I did enjoy this enough to keep reading the series. I'm about to start the third.
